Mary Emily Galysh Opening Reception

 —  —

Kingfisher Gallery, 219 N 5th Ave., Rome

Mary Emily Galysh, Mixed Media Artist @megalysh.art

Exhibit runs through Saturday, Sept. 7.

A native of Selma, Alabama, Mary Emily Galysh began her art career after a freak accident left her unable to hold a pencil for extended periods of time. She began painting to help with hand strength and dexterity. Through her mixed media art, she combines her love of history and research with a new found passion for painting. When creating, she likes to “hide” little pieces of paper within the canvas. She searches high and low for vintage and antique papers including maps, advertisements, newspapers, books, labels, etc. Vintage sewing patterns are her favorite ephemera to use. Each piece of pattern is used to pay homage to her parents who worked their entire lives in the textile industry. These papers along with modeling clay, heavy bodied acrylic paint, and oil pastels, stencils, and ink are used to make whimsical pieces of art for patrons of all ages. Mary Emily currently lives in Rome, Ga with her husband and 3 children.

BLUE CACTUS

Kingfisher Gallery, 219 N 5th Ave., Rome

Led by songwriters Steph Stewart and Mario Arnez, Blue Cactus got their start among the active honky-tonk circuit of North Carolina, developing an electrified twang that now branches out effortlessly into folk, alt-country, and psychedelic-tinged rock. Having released two records to critical acclaim, they have grown a cult following in the South and beyond, their introspective lyricism and blistering guitar techniques making the band potent in the studio and on stage. Praised by No Depression for their ability to paint “beautiful pictures of limitless possibility” in roots music, Blue Cactus firmly bear the flag for a new generation of country and Americana.
